- MAD FATHER: the remake of an horror cult in pixel art
If you're a lover of pixel art horror games and have never heard of Mad Father, you definitely need to remedy that. And if you do know it, know that the remake could be a great chance to immerse yourself in this disturbing and touching story again. Today I want to tell you about my experience with this new version, which left me with mixed feelings, but definitely reminded me how unique this game is. The story without spoilers (promise!) Mad Father puts you in the shoes of Aya Drevis, a young girl who lives with her father, a decidedly...peculiar scientist. One night, however, the tranquility of their large, gloomy mansion is shattered by terrifying events. To save her father, Aya must face unspeakable nightmares, slowly uncovering the dark secrets behind the doors of her home. What makes the plot special is not only the mystery that unravels as it unfolds, but the way the game manages to make you feel constantly on the edge of your seat between wanting to know more and dreading what you discover. What's new in the remake Having also played the original version, I can say that this remake takes Mad Father to the next level in many respects. The graphics have been completely revamped, and it shows: the environments are beautiful and detailed, the characters have more visual depth, and the atmosphere is made even more engaging with new animations. In addition, there are more interactions, more varied gameplay, and an overall refinement that makes the game more fluid and modern. However, I have to admit that one detail made my nose twitch: the gore component was reduced in the remake. For a game like Mad Father, which makes visceral horror and the ādisturbing factorā one of its strong points, this choice seemed to me a bit of a step backward. In the original title, those gory and scary scenes contributed a lot to building the oppressive and terrifying atmosphere of the story. The appeal of horror in pixel art Creating a horror atmosphere in a pixel art game is by no means easy. Yet, Mad Father succeeds incredibly well, both in the original version and in the remake. There is something unique about the contrast between the retro graphics and the disturbing themes: despite the visual limitations, the game manages to make you feel a real anguish that follows you even after you turn off your PC. The secret is all in the details: the design of the environments is dark and intricate, the sounds and music always keep you on your toes, and the events that happen in the mansion manage to surprise (and scare) you when you least expect it. If you want to see the game in action, I suggest you check out my videos: I explore the Drevis mansion and take you right into the center of Mad Father's horrors, showing you all those details that make this game special! TheLazySense gameplay Why you should play it If you've never played Mad Father, the remake is the perfect opportunity to discover a little horror masterpiece. And if you've played it before, I still recommend you give this new version a chance: despite some changes that might turn the noses of purists, the heart of the game remains intact. A disturbing story awaits you, full of twists and turns and moments that will make you hold your breath. So turn on your PC, turn off the lights and immerse yourself in the Drevis mansion. Trust me: you won't regret it--even if you might not sleep for a while. š Aya's happy family Have you played Mad Father, too? Let me know in the comments! I'm curious to know what you think, especially about this remake. š®
- My Adventure with MISIDE: Cute Appearance, Horror Soul
There are games that, even without complex mechanics or elaborate puzzles, leave a mark thanks to their atmosphere and storytelling. Miside Ā is one of them. In this article, I want to share my personal experience with this unique horror game that manages to be creepy, emotional, and sometimes completely out of the box. Behind its purely kawaii appearance, typical of Japanese style, lie much darker scenes and unsettling moments that involve the protagonist and, of course, our MITA. MISIDE My Experience with Miside From the very first minutes, the game immersed me in a tense and surreal atmosphere. Mita immediately throws us into her WORLDāa small apartment where we will spend most of our adventure. Every scene seems to hide something: an eerie detail or a hidden message that made me stop and try to figure it out. The real strength of Miside Ā lies in its storytelling. It doesnāt waste time with excessive explanations and gets straight to the point. The Characters Crazy Mita is our nemesis: she breaks the gameās rules in unpredictable ways, distorting reality and creating tense moments where you never know what to expect. She can travel through different versions of the game, and in some way, you always feel watched. This unpredictability of what you might encounter is what makes the experience so engaging. But Miside Ā isnāt just about fear and tension. Throughout the game, there were unexpectedly tender and sad moments that made me empathize with the story and the characters. Crazy Mita isnāt the only Mita weāll meetāthere are others ready to help us. Kind Mita will accompany us for most of the game, but from the beginning, the game doesnāt give us full certainty that she is truly "good." At least, thatās what I deduced from her demeanorāalways distant and reserved with the player. We will also encounter other minor versions, including Cool Mita , Sleepy Mita , Chibi Mita , and Mila , who provide small moments of respite between puzzles and jumpscares. However, not all "other versions" are friendly. Weāll meet Creepy Mita , Ghostly Mita , and Core Mita , who have a darker and more unsettling personality. Crazy Mita What Makes Miside Unique Even though Miside Ā doesnāt focus on puzzles or complex gameplay, it has several strengths that make it stand out: An Engaging Story: Ā The different versions of Mita are the heart of the game. Each version has its own personality, adding depth to the world and the narrative. Itās easy to grow attached to or be creeped out by them, depending on the situation. Crazy Mita: Ā This character pushes the player out of their comfort zone. She breaks the gameās rules and adds moments of pure tension, breaking the fourth wall (of her world) in terrifying ways, including some splatter scenes. References and Easter Eggs: Ā Homages to P.T. , the Backrooms, and other iconic elements are scattered throughout the game. Finding them is a little treat for players. Creepy Atmosphere: Ā Despite the relatively simple graphics, Miside ās atmosphere is incredibly effective. The small apartment setting transforms throughout the game, turning what once seemed like a safe place into a true nightmare. If you want to see Miside Ā in action, check out my videos (They are all in ITA) : Overall, Miside is a game I recommend to anyone who likes horror with a strong narrative component. It may not be the most complex or innovative title in terms of gameplay (I refer to DokiDoki Literature Club), but its atmosphere, story, and characters make it an experience worth trying. At the end my favorite Mita is definitely Sleepy Mita! She is adorable and of course... Sleeps a lot ā(ļ¾āć®ā)ļ¾* What's your favorite Mita!? All MITAs
